Finding a mentor through CROME: what mentorship includes and how to ask
A conversation with someone who works in a field you are curious about can change what you think is possible. CROME’s mentorship connects students with professionals who share their experience, listen to your goals, and help you explore what comes next.
Who is it for?
Students in Ennis and Ellis County who are thinking about life after high school. That includes college, trade school, certifications, the military, entrepreneurship, or a path you have not named yet. You do not need a plan to start. Many students come to a mentor precisely because they are not sure.
What does a mentor do with you?
- Career shadowing: spend time with a professional to see what the day-to-day work is really like before making big decisions.
- Industry visits: hands-on exposure to workplaces and industries you are interested in.
- Workshops and networking: events and resources that build skills and connections for your future.
- Personalized guidance: advice and feedback based on your own goals and interests.
- Help with next steps: once you have found a path, support with applications, essays, FAFSA and scholarship forms.
Who are the mentors?
CROME mentors are professionals and board members from fields such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, law, financial services, writing, business and human resources, several of them from Ennis themselves. You can meet the current mentors and read their stories before you reach out.
What does it cost?
Mentorship is one of the programs that donations and the Bluebonnet Run pay for, so students are not charged for it.
How do I ask?
Go to the mentorship page and use the “Ask about mentorship” button. It opens an email to CROME. Tell us a little about yourself, what you are curious about, and whether there is a mentor on the mentors page you would like to talk to. We will reply and take it from there.
